TRIPPING BCMA BERLÍN

TRIPPING is an exhibition curated by Tha House (Madrid) for the spaces of BCMA during this year’s Berlin Art Week. It presents five (inter)national artists whose abstract works are influenced by both their urban and digital environments. The collection invites viewers on a visual journey, an experience that can both fascinate and challenge.
Together, the artworks radiate a “spacey” character and transport futuristic dimensions reminiscent of pulsating beats. This aesthetic is amplified through the use of abstract forms, neon colors, digital elements, and apparent copy-paste patterns, which not only appeal to the senses but challenge us, the viewers, to redefine subjective conditions when observing art and explore the connection between aesthetic sensations and personal interpretations. Each piece is a testament to the artists’ individual perspectives in capturing the spirit of the times and questioning the boundaries between reality and virtuality.
Social media now plays a central role in the perception of art, prompting the artists to reflect the everyday in their works and use the inspiration gained to engage with identity, aesthetics, and the complexity of our modern world in their own visual languages. Whether this is appealing or provocative is not decisive – the exhibition aims much more to invite a journey of questioning and expanding one’s own concept of art. The boundaries between reality and fantasy can blur, just as they sometimes vanish between algorithmically shaped and personally developed tastes. Thus, the exhibited works, like personal taste, require the adoption of active responsibility and attention in order to be understood.
TRIPPING is an invitation to embark on a journey of discovery and reflection.
